Head’s Welcome

Welcome to New Barn School

Welcome to New Barn School; an exceptional, specialist autism school that provides individualised, aspirational education and care that inspires young people with autism to recognise their full potential and participate meaningfully in society.

It is my privilege to be leading this unique and wonderful school w here there is strong teaching and learning and the individuality and strengths of every student are celebrated and nurtured.

New Barn School offers state of the art facilities in a purpose-built environment set in the beautiful West Sussex countryside four miles west of Horsham.  New Barn School is part of Treehouse Educare Limited which consists of our school and residential care homes.

The staff team at New Barn School are committed to creating a learning culture that enables the best possible outcomes for its students on the autistic spectrum.  All staff demonstrate high levels of compassion and understanding that bring out the best in every student through dedication, hard work, perseverance and high expectations that allows students to thrive and achieve.

Our skilled team of teachers, support staff and therapists work collaboratively to design a personalised learning programme, tailored to the needs, strengths and interests of every student.

Partnership working is central to the success of our students; we are committed to working with our families to support the progress and wellbeing of their child.  Families have regular contact with the team at New Barn School who offer high levels of support and advice.

At New Barn School, we are proud of a truly unique curriculum design which is flexible, creative and tailored to the individual. The curriculum is designed to engage and challenge pupils both academically and socially so they can make accelerated progress.  We place a strong emphasis on personal development, social communication and learning.  We set high expectations of our pupils and believe that by developing self-confidence, self-esteem and independence, pupils will also have high expectations of themselves.

The school has been working with the National Autistic Society (NAS), and has achieved NAS accreditation, demonstrating that we are a centre of excellence and meet the needs of our autistic pupils very well.

At New Barn School, respect and equality underpin everything we do.  We recognise the amazing attributes that each of our students have, and we support their continual development to enable everyone to thrive.  Our students are encouraged to embrace new challenges and engage in appropriate risk taking in order to apply skills they have learnt to their whole lives.

Most importantly, we are aspirational and ambitious for all our students and aim for them to develop independence and be able to participate and contribute to society as they make their journey into adulthood.

However, please don’t just take my word; come and have a look for yourselves!  The staff and students would be delighted to show you around and answer any questions that you may have.

Come and visit us at New Barn School!
